Yosemite National Park of the United States is famous for its natural landscapes, among which the Horstayl Waterfall is particularly notable, which means “Horsetail” in Russian.
The only waterfall in the world, which is distinguished by its special natural uniqueness. You can even call it a natural phenomenon.
First, we clarify that the waterfall has a seasonal character, i.e. water flows only in winter and early spring.
But, and the very uniqueness consists in the fact that its flows turn for some time into hot, burning tongues. This occurs in February, when for only a few days (from mid-February to the end of February) the sun reflects from the water surface at a certain angle. All this happens at sunset time, when the sun slowly descends on the El Capitan mountain range and a “flame” arises due to the refraction of light. In the twilight, the glowing sunlight is reflected in the streams of water with bright reflections, creating the illusion of hot lava flows descending from the rock. At first it seems strange that the fire flows on the mountain slopes, stunning those present with a variety of orange, bright red, yellow shades.
And all this is an optical illusion!
This action lasts only 2 minutes. But the impressions of what he saw last enough. However, many tourists stay here for a few days, while the waterfall is being transformed in order to find itself again in the grip of unforgettable sensations.
By the way, the radiance of the fiery stream and the power of the glow also depend on the weather conditions. That is, the brighter the sun glows, the stronger the effect of light refraction.
Horstail Falls is considered the highest waterfall in Yosemite. Every year its waters fall down from the cliff, divided into two streams. East Stream falls from a height of 470 m, west with 480 m.
A huge number of travelers and tourists are going to look at this popular phenomenon. Every evening, all visitors to the park climb to the observation deck in anticipation of the sunset. Tourists even in the parking lot do not have enough space, because people come hundreds of kilometers to look at the spectacle.
This pilgrimage to Yosemite National Park begins in December.
An interesting fact – from 1872 to 1968 there was a tradition among the owners of the hotel Glacier Point, which was located on the top of the mountain. In order to attract visitors, the owners began to conduct a kind of ritual in the summer, dropping hot coals into the valley. Thus, the real February glow of the waterfall was imitated.
But this event was banned in 1968 by the national park service, as it was a violation of the natural balance.
But what to say, no imitation can replace this natural uniqueness.
In normal times, the Horstale waterfall looks like an ordinary waterfall, not much different from many other waterfalls. And tourists just can enjoy the surrounding beauty.
The surroundings of the waterfall are very picturesque, where you can get acquainted with the nature of California through special tourist routes. Here you can climb to the mountains, to explore the woodland, streams and trails. According to many, in this place is an anomalous zone.
It is believed that the best time to visit the waterfall is the period from December to May. I do not want to repeat myself, but, of course, February, when its natural illumination occurs!
